Throughout my life, animated films and video games have always been a constant form of entertainment as well as a source of artistic inspiration. Through those forms of media I learned about the fluidity of movement and what it takes to make a story entrancing. This is ultimately what I plan to achieve in my work. I want to make characters who can fully immerse an audience into an environment and story. Toy Story plays a huge part in why I chose the career path that I did. The whole notion of toys coming to life and having their own stories and adventures is something every kid fantasizes about. Seeing it with my own eye, awoke a creative side of me I had no idea was there. Through my 3D work, I’m able to build my own characters full of interesting stories and adventures. I think about the personality and emotions that the character might portray. I then consider where they might live and how they interact with that environment. Much like I used to do with my toys when I was a kid. This ultimately helps my overall workflow because it allows me to find the perfect look and style for that specific character.
Through my recent body of work, I aim to explore a variety of different character styles, ranging from realistic to heavily stylized or exaggerated characters. I want to be able to astound my audience with characters full of life and personality, just as I was wowed as a kid whenever I would watch an animated film or play a video game. I want to build characters capable of evoking emotion through their stories.
I ultimately want to find a happy medium between realism and stylization in my characters so that they may be used in a variety of settings and are capable of showing a vast range of emotions. My goal is to be able to tell a story and inspire others, much like I was inspired by the animated movies of my childhood.
